The Redruth Amateur Operatic Society Trust Singers were formed in January 2004 and have quickly established themselves as one of the best and most enjoyable mixed voice choirs in the region. The choir consists of approximately 60 singers aged 15 to 70 coming from all areas of Cornwall. The founder/musical director/accompanist Alastair Taylor is a professional musician in is own right having studied at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and has performed in most countries in Europe and Australia. The Singers repertoire consists of mainly film and show music but have also performed specially arranged versions of pop classics such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Angels, You Raise Me Up, California Dreaming and Say a Little Prayer for You. Notable performances have included working with Frank Renton (former musical director of the Gordon Highlanders and BBC Radio 2 presenter), Denise Leigh (winner of Channel 4's Operatunity), The Cornwall Caledonian Pipes and Drums, St. Austell and Camborne Town Bands and Four Lanes Male Choir. They are an outgoing friendly group who are noted for their enthusiasm and exuberance in performance, whatever the occasion! The choir are always looking to establish new contacts with other male/mixed/ladies choirs and other musical organisations across the UK. They are hoping, in the not too distant future to spread their wings further afield to America/Canada and Australia. |
