Singers

The Redruth Amateur Operatic Society Trust Singers were formed in January 2004 and have quickly established themselves as one of the best and most enjoyable mixed voice choirs in the region.  The choir consists of approximately 60 singers aged 15 to 70 coming from all areas of Cornwall.

The founder/musical director/accompanist Alastair Taylor is a professional musician in is own right having studied at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and has performed in most countries in Europe and Australia.

The Singers repertoire consists of mainly film and show music but have also performed specially arranged versions of pop classics such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Angels, You Raise Me Up, California Dreaming and Say a Little Prayer for You.

Notable performances have included working with Frank Renton (former musical director of the Gordon Highlanders and BBC Radio 2 presenter), Denise Leigh (winner of Channel 4's Operatunity), The Cornwall Caledonian Pipes and Drums, St. Austell and Camborne Town Bands and Four Lanes Male Choir.

Alastair left the choir in August of 2011 to make the move to London. His successor is Aaron Barker who although still being very young, his reputation as an established MD, Choir Master and pianist is growing by the day. The RAOST Singers will miss Alastair and wish him success in London and they give Aaron a very warm welcome into their flock!
